ART After School

STEM+Textiles After School
Fall & Winter 2026 | Why Choose a Fabrics & Fashion Program?

Fabrics & Fashion: Learning Skills That Last a LifetimeThe Fabrics & Fashion Program is more than an art or sewing class. Students learn to think creatively, solve problems, measure accurately, plan projects, and work confidently with their hands. Along the way, they develop patience, perseverance, environmental awareness, and pride in making something themselves.Throughout the year, students will create projects they can wear, carry, and treasure as they discover that mathematics, engineering, art, sustainability, and fashion are connected in surprising and meaningful ways. Every stitch tells a story, every project builds confidence, and every student leaves with new skills they can use for years to come.

Stitching MATH

Where Mathematics Meets SewingMath comes alive through sewing! Students will design and sew their own reusable tote bag using recycled fabrics and precut quilt squares while completing fun math activities that reinforce classroom learning.Through measuring, calculating area and perimeter, exploring fractions, symmetry, ratios, estimation, and geometry, students discover how mathematics is used every day by fashion designers, quilters, engineers, and makers. By the end of the workshop, each student will complete a personalized tote bag while seeing that math is stitched into every seam.

Freeform Crochet

Building One Stitch at a TimeStudents will discover the freedom of crochet by creating a one-of-a-kind scrumbled handbag. Beginning with simple stitches and gradually adding texture, color, and shape, students will make individual crochet motifs called scrumbles, which are joined together into a finished handbag.Along the way, students develop problem-solving, spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, perseverance, and design skills while learning how many small pieces can come together to form one beautiful creation.
